Have Fun In The Garden With These Tips

A garden can provide far more than just decorative appeal. It isn’t only a pastime for hobbyists with a green thumb. It can give a gardener a feeling of peace. You can really pull off some miracles if you are a good gardener.

When planting perennials, seek out those that are resistant to slugs. These mollusks are capable of consuming an entire garden full of flowers in a single night. Young plants with smooth and tender leaves are their favorite. Some varieties of perennials are not preferred by snails and slugs, particularly perennials that have hairy, tough leaves or a taste that isn’t appetizing. Some varieties of these plants are campanula, helleborus, heuchera, or euphorbia.

Use biennials and annuals to beautify your flower beds. The annuals and biennials are usually fast growing because they only last one season, and this will let you change the garden every season for a nice change of pace. Use them to fill gaps between shrubs and perennials in the sun. Some excellent choices include rudbeckia, hollyhock, sunflower, cosmos, petunia and marigold.

You do not need store-bought chemical treatments for plant mildew. A great home remedy is to mix baking soda with water and a little bit of liquid soap. Spray this mix on your plants every week and the mildew should go away. Baking soda treats the mildew effectively and gently and it won’t damage your plants.

Fall edibles are a wonderful addition to your garden. Instead of using regular clay pots this year for planting lettuce and kale, try a pumpkin container instead! Slice a hole around the stem, and pull the pumpkin top out. Then remove the guts and use Wilt-Pruf to cover the insides and prevent rot. Now this is completed, it is time to get planting!

Apply the tips from above to bring new life to your garden. You will be glad you did when your garden is full of thriving and blooming plants. Gardening can have a powerful effect on your life, so give it a try.
